Action Roguelike
Make the run coherent before you try to make it flashy. Pick a brush line, survive the next boss check, then optimize around the run you already built.
Realm of Ink is a Chinese ink-wash action roguelike where every run is a brushstroke on an ever-changing canvas of combat. You play a wandering swordsman who wields ink as both weapon and art, and the game asks for three things at once: split-second reactions, build-crafting discipline, and the patience to learn enemy patterns through repeated deaths. Most players who bounce off the game are not short on mechanical skill — they are short on commitment. A draft that never picks a direction dies to the same phase check every time.
This portal condenses the Realm of Ink wiki into the tables and field notes that actually change how a run plays out. The cleanest runs respect pacing: the game punishes players who spend every reward on spectacle before they have a safe neutral loop. Most failed drafts are not underpowered, they are undecided. Pick one brush plan early and make every relic answer that choice, and treat secret rooms and optional detours as costs — they are only good when they preserve the next boss fight.
Below you will find the read order we recommend for solving your next choke point, the boss compendium with phase counts, a snapshot of the 2026 build tier list, and the unlock conditions that gate ink colours and secret content. The deep-dive pages — full tier list entries, per-boss phase breakdowns, ink combo theory, and secret room routing — live on the sub-site.
Read in this order rather than by curiosity. Each stage assumes the previous problem is already solved, which is why combo theory near the bottom compounds a stable run instead of rescuing a broken one.
| Stage | Main Problem | Best Guide |
|---|---|---|
| Lock One Brush Identity | The run has no stable damage language from room one, so every reward pulls in a different direction | Best Builds Tier List |
| Fix Boss Losses | Ordinary encounters are consistent but runs die to phase checks and bad positioning | Boss Guide |
| Optimize Combos | Survival is solved and the run needs resonance density to scale into later acts | Ink Combo Guide |
| Route The Map | Optional detours and secret rooms are eating the time and health budget of the next boss | Exploration Guide |
Four signature encounters and their domains. Phase counts tell you how much of your damage budget must survive the fight — a four-phase dragon does not care how strong your opening burst was if the build cannot maintain pressure through the back half.
| Entity | Domain | Phases |
|---|---|---|
| Ink Serpent | Azure Mist | 3 Phases |
| Crimson Phoenix | Blazing Sands | 2 Phases |
| Jade Dragon | Verdant Peaks | 4 Phases |
| Shadow Fox | Eternal Night | 3 Phases |
Builds are ranked on four criteria: damage output against both crowds and single targets, survivability, consistency across room layouts, and clear speed. S-tier builds excel at all four. Lower tiers trade one or more away for specialization — C-tier does not mean unviable, it means one weakness is significant enough to make the build suboptimal for progression.
| Tier | Character & Build | Ink Combo | Why It Ranks Here |
|---|---|---|---|
| S | Monk Jin — Void Crit Storm | Void + Gold | Highest DPS in the game. Void Pierce ignores Nightmare armour while Gold supplies crit chance; the −20% HP penalty demands near-perfect dodging. |
| S | Grace — 4-Color Resonance Skill Spam | Jade + Black + Red + Gold | Grace's −25% cooldown cap plus Jade's −40% total reduction refreshes skills every 4-5 seconds. No bad matchup. |
| S | Violetta — Burn Spread Dancer | Red + Gold + Crimson | Dance Mode applies 8+ burn stacks per second and Gold spreads them room-wide. The fastest room-clear build. |
| A | A'kuan — Frost Skirmisher | Blue + Gold + Black | Constant repositioning makes you nearly untouchable; lower DPS than dedicated damage builds keeps it out of S. |
| A | Miss Lee — Ranged Burn Sniper | Red + Gold + Blue | Applies burn from safety and freezes approachers. The best build for learning boss patterns at range. |
| B | Red — Lifesteal Fortress | Black + Red + White | The most forgiving build in the game, but clear times run 40-60% slower than S-tier. Ideal for a first full clear. |
| C | Red — Pure Black Pacifist Tank | Black + White (pure) | Survives anything including Nightmare boss ultimates; clear times are 3-4x slower than A-tier. A challenge build. |
Start here if you still need a stable first-clear route. It frames the brush and relic lines that stay useful beyond one lucky run.
Open guide →Use this once the early rooms are solved and bosses become the real reason promising runs end.
Open guide →Read this after your main brush identity is stable so combo theory sharpens the run instead of distracting from basics.
Open guide →Use the builds tier list before diving into niche tech so the run has one stable damage language from room one. Every relic you take afterwards should answer that choice.
The Health Flask (+25% Max HP) is the first shop purchase on a learning run, no exceptions. You will take hits while learning boss patterns, and dead runs teach nothing about scaling.
Aim for at least two matching ink skills by the end of Act 1. A reliable two-colour resonance with strong fundamentals beats a greedy but incomplete four-colour build every time.
Soul Ink is the permanent progression currency spent at the Soul Ink Tree between runs. Max out one upgrade path before starting another instead of spreading it thin across the tree.
Dash through enemy groups, not away from them. The dash leaves an ink trail that damages enemies, so dashing away applies damage to nothing.
Complete the full four-hit basic combo whenever it is safe — the final hit deals 2x damage and applies an ink status effect.
Blocking within 0.3s of impact negates all damage and stuns the attacker for 1.5s. The stun window is long enough for a full combo.
A full ink meter grants +40% damage, +25% speed, and zero-cost skills for 6 seconds. Save your most expensive skills for this window.
Spirits are free damage. Summon one early and feed it every ink essence you find at spirit shrines.
Choose scrolls that enhance your current build direction. A scroll buffing ink damage is wasted on a melee-focused draft.

GameGuideHub is a network of data-first game wikis. The Realm of Ink hub is maintained for build coherence, boss phase reads, and ink resonance planning rather than lucky-run highlight reels.
Every guide here is checked against in-game behaviour before publishing. If a page saves a run that would otherwise have ended in Act 3, you can support the project on UniFans — link in the footer.
